Should You Trade In Your Car Or Sell It For Cash?

Posted on

If you want to get a new vehicle and have an older one you want to get rid of, you have a few options: either consider a sell car for cash option, or trade your vehicle in. Lots of auto dealers and individual buyers pay cash for cars that they either fix up and resell or that they want to keep for themselves.

When you trade in a vehicle at an auto dealership, you don't get any cash for the car's value, but you do get money taken off a new car you buy at the same dealership. If you want to get a new car, then either cash for cars or a trade-in option can work for you, but selling your car for cash can be the better one. Compare your options here to see which one is best for you in the end.

You want more buyer flexibility

Where do you want to buy your next car? If you want more buyer flexibility but you need cash for cars to pay for your new vehicle, then you should consider selling your car for cash instead of trading it in to an auto dealership. This way, the cash you get for your vehicle can be used on whatever you want, and you don't have to remain dedicated to one dealership or seller to get the value of your car back to you.

You could even use the cash for cars you receive to save for other expenses as well. If you trade in your vehicle instead of receiving cash for it, your only benefit is to put the value of your vehicle against the purchase of a new one, and you don't see the cash in hand.

You want more negotiation room

A trade-in might seem like the better deal, but it doesn't give you much negotiation room because the auto dealership doesn't so much need your car as they want your business. A person or dealership who wants to pay cash for cars might have a different motive, and be more likely to negotiate a price for your vehicle when you sell. Choose a fair market price for your car in the private and dealer sector and list your car for sale. If you want your car sold more quickly, choose a buyer who specifically pays cash for cars on sight and can get money into your hands right away so you can buy whatever you need or put the money into savings.
